How to use the community tagging system:

Since starting to tag all sims submissions to the community, our original masterlist of tradable sims has fallen by the wayside. Though some of those links are still valid, and it is a usable resource, we've come to rely on the tagging system as a way to find and filter tradable sims.

The tags are displayed at the left side of the community, and you can see the entire list of pixel_trade tags, and how often they're used at:
http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/tag/

There's many ways to use the tagging system to your advantage:

Single tag:
Useful if you want to browse ALL posts to the comm from a single user, a single event, or all sims submitted to the comm. For example:
http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/tag/!self sim submission or
http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/tag/!simsperiments

Multiple tags:
Use the multiple tag option to view all posts including more than one tag, for example if you're a fan of two users and want to see all of their related posts to the comm, or multiple event posts all at once.

For example, say you want to find all the posts featuring sims from our two latest mods, you would use the following url:
http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/tag/boolpropbea,charterzard

You can also use this method in conjunction with other tags, so for example if you wanted to see the sims of child and adult ages that I had submitted to the community, you would use the following url:

http://pixel-trade.livejournal.com/?poster=bondchick_nett&tag=!download:%20adult,!download:%20child/toddler

RSS:
You can use the tagging system to receive rss feeds of certain specific tags, for example to receive a feed of all sim submissions, you would use the following url:

http://community.livejournal.com/pixel_trade/data/rss?tag=!sim%20submission

Unfortunately at present there's no livejournal way of filtering using tags. We very much wish there was, especially so that we could do things like filter the submissions to only sims 2 sims or only sims 3 etc. There's a few greasemonkey filters available around the web that may allow such customisation, though many seem out of date. If you've up to date ways of using the tags for filtering etc please don't hesitate to share! ^_^

I realised in the car back from the shops that I hadn't included an example for that! xD Fixing it now.

Would it be helpful to go through our own posts to tag them !sims 2 or !sims 3?

That would be FANTASTIC. We are slowly going through all the old stuff and tagging it, but it'll take us a good long while (the comm is almost 3 years old, after all!), so if you are willing to tag your own old posts, that much less work! XD

We've always had the rule that if you post something to do with sims 3 then you need to use that tag, BUT if you feel so inclined as to go back and tag your OWN posts with the new sims 2 tag then that would ROCK!

The mods were going to slowly do it over time as its a big big job, so any offers of "I'll do mine!" would be very very much appreciated.

edit: LOL What Rachel said xD

It's not a big issue, but I would like to edit the tags for my original name, pixel_and_bean to the name I've been using the past few years, pixelcurious. Both tags exist and for clarity's sake I'd love to just consolidate them under the one name.

However I cannot delete tags, only add them (which of course makes sense for a community). Would it be okay for me to add the tag pixelcurious to those posts? And perhaps a mod could at some point delete the old tags? Please consider it very low priority though! ^_^

I just posted for the first time and was wondering why I can't any "new" tags, such as my name. A message keeps popping up every time I try to do so, and it says that I either do not have permission to make new tags (even though I am a member) or that the limit of the number of tags has been exceeded. I was wondering if anybody knows how to fix this? Just wanna make sure I'm not making mistakes or anything. Thanks! =]

Only the mods can add tags to the comm, not members. When you post your first sharing post - or a founder to the monthly founder submission - we'll add your tag and then it can be used ^^

So I have a question, am I correct in thinking that all new posts have to be tagged with either !sims 2 or !sims 3, depending on which game it concerns? Like update posts and sim submissions in particular?

Yups you are correct. We have it stated in the sim submission rules that you must: "If you are sharing a Sims 3 Sim, make sure to tag the post "!sims 3", likewise if you're sharing a Sims 2 Sim tag with "!sims 2"."

But I just realised we don't have that rule clearly stated for posting in general. I'll update the general rules now.

I was just wondering, because I've been chastised with the evil mod note subject line when I didn't put !sims 2 on one of my updates, but I've noticed other people haven't done that? So I was just checking XD

Sometimes the mods don't always catch everything, and I've been v. busy and v. afk this last month or so so haven't been able to moderate with as much as an iron fist as I normally do ;)

I'm not trying to be like "Heyyyyy, do your job," I just wasn't entirely certain! Life sneaks up on people. It's sneaking up on me right now >_>

LOL Its all cool, I didn't mean it like you were being accusatory ^^ hence the joke about iron fists. I'm not sure my fist could be iron if I tried. I'd be all GUYS LOOK AT MA SMACKDOWN ON THIS POST! And they'd be all "If you call sunshine, lollipops and rainbows a smackdown..."

That's actually pretty much how most of my conversations with katu_sims go about my moderation style, tbh... ^_^;;;;

Tag Problem
When I try to tag a post with my name it will not let me.
