All right! Now, as you may or may not remember, a while back I posted a poll to vote on the terrain for the Build a Neighborhood challenge. If you were worried you missed the official results - you didn't. It took me much longer than anticipated to get to posting this, all though that's entirely my fault for deciding to start this before flying across the world for two weeks. Sorry!

So, here are the results! The winner of all the terrains was Twikkii Island, Expanded!

Now, as far as EPs and SPs are concerned, we ask that if you can run the AnyGame Starter, that you make lots with ONLY the following Expansions:

Open for Business

Family Fun
Glamour Life

The original plan was to use the top three of each, but OFB was not in the top three, and it's so crucial to community lots. And to be kind to our Mac-using friends, the two SPs that are available for mac are the ones nominated. I realise Family Fun isn't one of the more popular SPs, and believe me, it kills me dead not to be able to use IKEA and K&B, but you're always welcome to make more than one version of the house.

Speaking of! Let's touch on the CC issue. Someone had mentioned the idea of doing sets of allowed CC, which I quite liked. However, I spoke to the other mods, and we're going to nix the CC idea. It's so hard to find CC that's universally compatible with computers/EPs/personal taste, and it would just take too long. Go ahead and include CC with your lots - but make sure you make a CC-free version, as well.

So, the (vaguely) comprehensive list of building rules and regulations (I say vaguely because there is almost certainly something I'm not thinking of atm):

You must:
- Include a CC-free version of the lot, using as few EPs and SPs as possible.
- Include an empty shell/minimally furnished version of the lot. Community lots ignore this rule.

You may:
- Include an alternate version of the lot with CC.
- Include an alternate version of the lot with whatever EPs/SPs you want.
- Include a fully furnished/decorated/etc version of the lot.

If I've omitted something, feel free to bring it up. As for uploading: general community rules apply! Do take pictures of the floorplans, at the very least.

ETA: About specialty lots.

Apartments: Since we're keeping things as basegame as possible, we're not allowing zoned apartments. However, feel free to make a multi-house residential lot, using regular doors, and if a user wants to, they can change the doors and zoning themselves (How to change lot zoning!). However, as long as you're uploading a residential version, feel free to upload a ready-to-go version as well.

Beach lots: Obviously this is a bit of a hiccup. BV isn't included on the EP list, however, we did choose the neighborhood terrain based on whether or not it could support beach lots. The final decision among mods is that yes, we will allow beach lots.

Dormitories: Feel free to upload dorms! Please keep in mind that you must upload any non-finished versions as residential, so they can be properly edited. Fully furnished is fine to be zoned as a dorm. Please specify what it's zoned as, so it's easier to find in the catalogue!

Just an FYI on the AGS: It creates a COMPLETELY SEPARATE game folder for each any game you create, so it doesn't take any of the info from your main game meaning any terrains or other content you want to appear in you any game has to be manually installed into that any game's folder.

ETA: The new version of AGS changed the location of the anygame folders they used to be found right next to your Sims 2 folder in My docs, now they are here:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\My Documents\AnyGameStarter

ETA 2: If you install the terrains in your main game BEFORE creating the any game they are in fact copied over properly XD BUT DOWNLOADS STILL NEED TO BE ADDED MANUALLY IF YOU WANT THEM! (This includes sims)

Good bit of info, didn't know that!

I'm a little bit confused-- What are we supposed to do for this challenge? Download the neighborhood and decorate/build houses on it, or just build a few houses or community lots, and then they will be used to create one pixel trade-y neighborhood?
Aug. 17th, 2009 12:21 am (UTC)
The latter. All though do feel free to download the neighborhood to use as a building base so that you can be sure your lot matches.

Okay, thank you. :]

Yeah, I had a similar question. Is someone among you guys (the mods) going to "build" the neighborhood as we submit lots?

So that way we'll have the non-BV version without the beach lots...?

Also, the flat areas shouldn't be a problem, but we are going to have an issue with building on the sloped areas unless people claim certain positions and their lots are placed back into that area. (And even then, the person building the hood should probably have a lot placement hack that allows easier placement of lots.)

If we do a separate hood for the non-BV people, I don't have a problem building some flooded lots for some pretty scenery. Those don't work right in BV, according to Plasticbox, so I wouldn't suggest adding them to the same hood as the beach lots.

I had intended to piece together the hood, yeah. Nett will be doing the Mac version to ensure compatibility, and I at least do have a lot placement hack. So if you're interested in building on a sloped area, feel free to claim your area so I can put it in properly.

I'll be periodically updating with a birds eye view of the neighborhood so you guys can a) actually watch the neighborhood growing, and b) so you have an idea which areas to build on. XD

And thank you, I'll be sure to make two separate hoods (like N015 and N016 so they don't overwrite). :)

I think the claiming spots idea that quinctia mentioned is a good idea, if you mods want I'd be willing to plot out what lot sizes can go where and label plots on a map so they can be picked by people (like Lot A is a 3x3, Lot B is a 3x4 etc)
Aug. 17th, 2009 10:09 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that'd be great, if you're willing!
Aug. 17th, 2009 10:10 pm (UTC)
wouldn't have said I was if I wasn't XD will go do it now :D
Aug. 17th, 2009 10:57 pm (UTC)
Question, am I allowed to place those mini lots by Marylou from MTS2 in the hood, there are a few spots that would be ideal for them XD
Aug. 18th, 2009 09:15 am (UTC)
They won't be available in the Mac version of the hood, but if nothing else will fit there anyway, then go for it!
Aug. 19th, 2009 12:16 am (UTC)
Nett said they would be because she plans on building on them XD
Aug. 21st, 2009 02:40 am (UTC)
I'm getting ready to do some building. I've got the hood, just in case I want to do anything on the coast, but before I get too far into things, I had a few questions.

HOW do you want these lots submitted? Do you want a comment in this post with a link to a journal posting in my own journal? Some other way?

How much do you think we should submit, also? I can knock out a few houses in an evening, and I thought I'd do a few community lots because I've made some neat ones for Manhattenton. I also think a couple of my past lots were CC-free, and I meet all the EP limits because that's my exact game configuration (actually I have at least one that's pre-OfB, even).

Actually, it might be best if you just post a separate entry, all though a fake cut would be fine. XD

As for submission, apparently Laurie, who is our honourary cartographer, has reported that we have room for well over 100 lots so far! So at the moment, we are not imposing any sort of submission quota. The more, the merrier!

And any lots, regardless of when you made them, as long as they fit the guidelines, are absolutely welcome!
